As a trilogy-related aside, let me say that I hate
mystery. I hate mystery so much that I went out and tracked it down and
wherever I found it I killed it until I didn’t find anymore. This is something
I actually did, and at which I was perfectly successful. I destroyed shadows
and darkness with light and clear-seeing. This is another way of expressing the
awakening process, and the decisive question is, do you hate false-self more
than you fear no-self? That’s the battle; hatred of false self vs fear of
no-self. This question can build up in you for years, and the exact moment that
you take the First Step on the true journey of awakening is the exact moment
that you answer this question. Picking up a six-inch knife and leaping into a
bloody maelstrom to slay an unslayable beast doesn’t mean you have answered this question, it is the answer.
